Far Away From A Decision
If President Obama and the Republicans do not compromise on a deal by next year then the country will go over the cliff.
President Obama’s Plan
There is still no deal on what to do about the fiscal cliff. President Obama’s proposal on the fiscal cliff is to add $1.6 trillion dollars in new taxes, $50 million dollars in new stimulus package and to cut $500 billion dollars from Medicare and entitlements.
Republicans’ Plan
Republicans did not like the presidents plan and criticized it. Everyone suspected that the Republicans would react this way. The president put his plan out so that the Republicans can come up with their own plan on what to do with the fiscal cliff. Republicans put out a plan on December 3, 2012 and it shows $2.2 trillion in deficit savings over the next decade, including $800 billion from tax reform, $600 billion from Medicare reforms and other health savings, and $600 billion in other spending cuts.
The Media’s Viewpoint
On MSNBC, Ed Schultz talked about how John Boehner criticized the White House proposal. Schultz criticized Boehner because Schultz believed that Boehner does not understand what is in the White House proposal.
On Fox News, Bill O’Reilly criticized the President’s plan because it does not give specifics in what kind of spending cuts are going to take place.
Both MSNBC and Fox News are criticizing their opponents plan. What is your reaction to the different plans?
